Government Balances Two Years of Social Policy

The Catalan government's two-year anniversary tour arrived in Sabadell on Saturday, 19 September 2026, with Social Rights Minister Raúl Moreno leading a public event at Espai Cultura. The gathering, titled Dos anys construint el futur (Two Years Building the Future), reviewed key social initiatives delivered since the start of Salvador Illa’s administration. Moreno was welcomed earlier in the day at Sabadell City Hall by Mayor Marta Farrés and several councillors. The reception took place in the council chamber at Plaça de Sant Roc, with the plenary hall unavailable due to civil weddings. During the visit, Moreno signed the city’s honour book and received a traditional wool scarf as a commemorative gift.

New Public Care Home Reaches 60% Completion

A central focus of the visit was the construction of Sabadell’s first public residential care facility in the southern part of the city. Moreno confirmed that the project has surpassed 60% completion, describing it as a milestone for elderly care in the municipality.

"More than half of the construction work is already done. We are around 60% built and hope it will become a reality in the coming months. This way, older people in Sabadell will have the option of the city’s first public residence,"

The new facility is part of a broader strategy to strengthen social and socio-health services in Sabadell. Other ongoing projects include a day centre and residential facility for people with disabilities at Can Gambús, led by the Barnola Charitable Foundation and the CIPO cooperative.

Local and Regional Leaders Join Review

The Espai Cultura event was hosted by Ràdio Sabadell journalist Núria García and attended by Eloi Cortés, Deputy Mayor for Presidency, and Dolors Costa, president of the Parc Taulí Health Corporation’s Governing Council. Representatives from local social organisations and institutions also participated. The visit forms part of a wider series of events across Catalonia, where members of the regional executive are presenting departmental achievements from the past two years. The Generalitat describes these engagements as opportunities to share progress directly with civic and institutional stakeholders.
