6 new affordable flats nearly complete in Les Clotes

Six new affordable rental flats for young people under 35 are on track to be completed in Vilafranca del Penedès before the end of 2026. Located at Carrer Ferran, 73, in the Les Clotes neighbourhood, the flats are part of the municipal government’s strategy to expand access to protected housing. The building, constructed on municipal land, is nearing completion, with Mayor Francisco Romero and Housing Councillor Lourdes Sánchez visiting the site this week to assess progress. Each flat will measure approximately 50 square metres, with monthly rents set between €400 and €450. The project has cost €1,077,218.36 in total, with €210,651–19.55%, coming from the EU’s Next Generation funds via the Spanish Ministry for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA), under a scheme supporting energy-efficient affordable rental housing.

Part of wider plan to expand affordable housing

The Carrer Ferran development adds to a broader municipal effort to increase the supply of affordable housing. According to the Ajuntament, Vilafranca has now advanced 205 affordable homes and social rentals during this term, exceeding targets set in the 2022–2027 Local Housing Plan, which called for 196 new units. Other projects include 36 flats on Carrer Glòria Lasso, 24 homes on Carrer Nord developed with the cooperative La Bastida-Sostre Cívic, and 14 homes acquired through municipal right of first refusal. Future developments are planned on Carrer Gelida and Carrer Dolors Piera, the latter to include 74 social rental units with 25% reserved for under-35s.
