Sitges Town Council has held a preventive coordination meeting for the Santa Tecla Festival, bringing together police, municipal departments and the Festival Commission to prepare for incidents, manage mobility and protect emergency access during major events.

For residents, visitors and hospitality businesses, the plan means that areas with the largest expected crowds, event routes and timetables will be reviewed in advance so services can respond quickly if an incident occurs.

Mayor Aurora Carbonell chaired the meeting, which included the Local Police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, and the municipal departments responsible for Governance, Traditions and Festivals, Urban Services, and Social Rights, Citizenship and Equality.

Mobility and emergency access reviewed

The council said the meeting examined the planned deployment, identifying higher-attendance and higher-risk points, planning traffic restrictions and ensuring that emergency services can reach festival venues.

  • Events expected to draw the largest crowds will receive a specific review.
  • Organisers will assess event routes and schedules.
  • The deployment is intended to provide a proportionate response capacity for incidents.

A permanent coordination channel involving the Red Cross, the Medical Emergency Service (SEM), firefighters, volunteer firefighters, Mossos d'Esquadra, Local Police and Civil Protection is also scheduled to operate during Santa Tecla, according to Visit Sitges information on the wider Festa Major safety arrangements.

“The objective is to reconcile the celebration of the Festival with the protection of people, mobility, and the ordinary functioning of the municipality.”

The Town Council has also convened an extraordinary meeting of political spokespersons to report on the preventive security meeting. It has asked people attending Santa Tecla events to act responsibly and respect coexistence and civic rules.
