Sant Cugat del Vallès public education centres are among those affected by strike action this week, with stoppages set for Wednesday 27 May and Thursday 28 May. The action is part of a wider wave of protests across Catalonia.

On Wednesday, 27 May, public education centres across Catalonia are due to strike. Unions including USTEC, Professors de Secundària, CGT and Intersindical have called the action to protest an agreement signed by the Department of Education with CCOO and UGT.

In the Vallès Occidental area, which includes Sant Cugat, centres are also called to strike again on Thursday, 28 May. The Catalan government and Sant Cugat Town Council have set minimum services for public education centres and municipal facilities.

Those minimum services are intended to keep basic care in place for students during the industrial action. The measures apply while staff who wish to strike are able to do so.

The two days in Sant Cugat are part of a broader calendar of stoppages planned across Catalonia during May and June. The final strike across Catalonia is scheduled for Friday, 5 June.

The unions behind the action say they are opposing the agreement because it does not address their concerns about working conditions and education policy. For more Catalonia-wide reporting, see our news coverage.
