The Sant Cugat del Vallès City Council is awaiting a response from the Catalan government to advance improvements to C-16 motorway access points, according to Mayor Josep Maria Vallès. The city faces recurrent demands to ease saturation at existing entry points.
Mayor Vallès explained the situation during a recent edition of 'L'alcalde respon' (The Mayor Responds) on Cugat Mèdia. He admitted that despite the council's work on a proposal and its submission to the Catalan government, there has been no new development.
Vallès emphasised that the City Council lacks the jurisdiction to initiate or undertake such infrastructure projects. He stated, "It's an issue we've worked on, but it reaches a point where you find a door called Generalitat."
Council Urges Government Action
The saturation of current C-16 access points is a long-standing complaint in Sant Cugat del Vallès. In February, the municipal plenary approved a motion urging the Catalan government to implement new entry points to the C-16, specifically around Avinguda del Carril. This proposal passed without the support of En Comú Podem.
Despite the plenary's clear stance, the project remains dependent on the Catalan government's decision, as it is responsible for validating and promoting any such action.
The City Council continues to press for a resolution, highlighting the need for the Generalitat to act on the proposed C-16 motorway access improvements to alleviate traffic congestion for residents.
