Sant Cugat del Vallès Council is awaiting a decision from the Catalan government to proceed with improvements to the C-16 motorway access points, according to Mayor Josep Maria Vallès. The municipality seeks to address the current saturation of entry points to the C-16.
Mayor Vallès explained that despite the council's work on a proposal and its submission to the government, there has been no progress. He stated, "It's an issue we have worked on, but it reaches a point where you encounter a door called Generalitat," highlighting the council's lack of jurisdiction over such infrastructure projects.
Improving C-16 access is a long-standing demand in Sant Cugat del Vallès due to the congestion at existing entry points. The municipal plenary session in February approved a motion urging the Generalitat to implement new access points, particularly around Avinguda del Carril.
Generalitat's Role in Infrastructure
This proposal passed without the support of the En Comú Podem political group. However, any action on the project remains dependent on the Catalan government's decision, as it is responsible for validating and promoting such initiatives.
During the same 'L'alcalde respon' (The Mayor Responds) programme on Cugat Mèdia, Mayor Vallès also addressed other citizen requests. These included adapting nursery schools to high temperatures, installing shade in children's parks, relocating the Sant Cugat FC to the future Ca n'Ametller neighbourhood, and aspects of the new waste collection system.
The future of the C-16 access improvements in Sant Cugat del Vallès now rests entirely with the Generalitat, which must decide whether to approve and fund the necessary infrastructure work to alleviate traffic congestion.
