Salou hosted its fifth annual Primary Education Centres Sports Day on Monday morning, 8 June 2026, bringing nearly 500 primary school pupils together at the Municipal Football Pitch. The event was organised under the Educational Environment Plan and focused on cohesion, community and shared learning.

The day brought children from schools across the municipality into one programme of physical activity and group play. Its aims were to encourage healthy habits, teamwork and stronger links between pupils from different educational centres in Salou.

Salou Mayor Pere Granados, Education Councillor Júlia Gómez and Sports Councillor Yeray Moreno attended the event. In his welcome, Mr Granados said activities like this support children’s full development, and thanked the schools and wider educational community for their involvement in an initiative built around community, respect and cooperation.

Participants were split into teams for a series of sports challenges and games, including arrenca-cues, pitxi, datchball and cementiri, across six activity stations. Each pupil also received a cap in their team colour as a souvenir of the day.

Students from the Auxiliary Sports Activities Training and Insertion Programme, PFI, at Marta Mata Institute helped organise and run the activities. The school’s students gained practical experience through the event, while also supporting the day’s delivery.

Schools taking part included Salou, Santa Maria del Mar, Elisabeth, Vora Mar and Europa, with Marta Mata Institute also collaborating. For more local education coverage, see our news page.
