Roses, in Girona, brought together more than 300 primary and secondary pupils on 22 May 2026 for the annual Cantarella concert, a local project centred on affective-sexual diversity and social cohesion.
A total of 337 students from eight educational centres took part, seven based in Roses and one in Palau-Saverdera. The participating schools were Montserrat Vayreda, Vicens Vives, Els Grecs, Narcís Monturiol, Centre Escolar Empordà and Martí Inglès, together with the institutes Illa de Rodes and Cap Norfeu.
Cantarella began in the 2008-2009 academic year, when the Roses Educational Zone music working group launched it to bring together pupils of different ages and schools through music. Organisers say it has since become an annual choral event that combines art, education and a commitment to the future.
This year’s performance focused on affective-sexual diversity. The show followed a story set on a dance stage, with pupils sharing experiences and concerns around the theme. The repertoire included eight songs: No és Miami by Buhos, Sort de tu by Oques Grasses, Els teus ulls by Alfred Garcia, Guapíssima by Banda Neon, Extraordinàriament Normal by Dr Prats, T'estimo bastant by Xiula, Compta amb mi by Txarango, and Aviam què passa by Rigoberta Bandini.
The concert forms part of the 2025-2026 Educational Plan for the Area. Its aims include strengthening cohesion between schools and age groups, promoting Catalan as a language of social cohesion, and introducing young people to music while developing civic, social and artistic skills.
