Girona, Catalonia, two of the three Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) councillors on Girona City Council are currently on sick leave, according to local reports. The situation affects the party’s public political activity in the city.

The councillors are Raquel Robert i Rubio and Àdam Bertran i Martínez. Robert, who ran as an independent candidate, usually takes part in plenary sessions remotely, while Bertran, a member of ERC, attends in person.

Even with their sick leave, both councillors are continuing to monitor their respective areas so municipal activity does not stop. The arrangement is intended to avoid disruption to council work and ongoing projects.

The ERC group in Girona has only three councillors in total, so the absences leave it operating with reduced capacity. For more local political coverage, see our news page.

Girona City Council remains the main setting for the issue, but the case also reflects a wider challenge for small municipal groups when key members are unable to take part fully in public duties.
