Roses, Girona. A rap workshop featuring Baba Flow from the Versembrant collective recently helped promote the use of Catalan at the Oficina de Català de Roses. The event, held on 12 June 2026, was designed as an enjoyable and original way to encourage Catalan beyond traditional classroom settings.

Participants created lyrics, rhythms, and performances, applying new vocabulary and linguistic structures. This allowed them to express their own ideas and emotions in Catalan, according to officials.

During the workshop, Baba Flow presented examples from previous sessions and introduced attendees to the basics of rap, explaining concepts such as rhyme, rhythm, and metre. Following this introduction, participants worked on developing their own rap pieces. The atmosphere was described as participatory and motivating, helping to build confidence and oral expression in Catalan.

Connecting Language and Culture

The Oficina de Català de Roses views the experience positively. They believe it helps establish Catalan as a living, useful, and accessible tool for students. Rap, as a contemporary form of expression, acts as a bridge between the language and the daily lives of learners.

Initiatives like this show that language learning can be dynamic, inspiring, and deeply connected to current creativity and culture. The Oficina de Català plans to continue exploring new methods to make Catalan more relevant to its students.
