Roses, Girona, is preparing for a full calendar of cultural events this spring and summer, featuring music festivals, archaeological workshops, and traditional celebrations. The town's Ciutadella will be a central venue for many of these activities, including concerts by renowned artists.

The Festival Sons del Món will host several significant performances at the Ciutadella. Fangoria, the iconic Spanish electronic pop duo, will perform on 9 August, presenting their new album, 'La verdad o la imaginación', and playing classic hits. God Save The Queen is set to return on 10 August to celebrate 50 years of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' with an enhanced technical and visual show. Catalan pop-rock band Gossos will also perform their only concert of the year on 1 August, sharing the stage with LAX’N’BUSTO, who are celebrating their 40th anniversary. Rosana will perform on 5 August, marking 30 years since her album Lunas Rotas was released. Looking ahead to 2026, Els Catarres are confirmed to open the Festa Major concerts on 11 August.

Ciutadella Enhancements and Archaeology

The Ciutadella de Roses has recently seen significant improvements, with a new electrical system allowing for the full connection of its updated night lighting. This project, costing €370,681, has illuminated over 2,000 linear metres of defensive walls and interior structures, according to local officials. The Càtedra Roses d’Arqueologia i Patrimoni Arqueològic, a collaboration between the University of Girona and Roses Town Council, continues its work at the medieval villa within the Ciutadella. This spring, it offers the public a chance to participate in archaeological laboratory tasks on 29 and 30 April, requiring prior registration.

The IX Cicle de Xerrades d’Arqueologia (9th Archaeology Lecture Series) will start on 15 April at Ca l’Anita. This series will feature four talks during April and May, with specialists discussing topics such as medieval music, underwater archaeology, and bioarchaeology.

Festivals and Local Celebrations

Roses will celebrate Sant Jordi on 23 April with various activities throughout the day. The programme includes stalls selling roses and books, sardana dancing with local schools, a children's parade and show, and the distribution of roses to women over 60. The Festa d’Abril will take place from 17 to 19 April at the former Càmping Bahía site, offering a diverse programme that blends Andalusian traditions with local artists and groups.

The town is also dedicating April to wine culture as part of the Festival Vívid, Costa Brava's enotourism month. This includes tasting workshops at the Aula Gastronòmica-Espai Juli Soler and the 11th edition of the Mostra del Vi DO Empordà on 26 April.

Theatre and Art Exhibitions

Roses will host the first Fira de Teatre Familiar (Family Theatre Fair) on 4 and 5 April, an initiative by the Roses Town Council's Culture Department and the Optimist association. This new event aims to offer quality performing arts for all ages before the summer season, with most activities being free, except for the show 'Bianco', which costs €6.

Ca l’Anita will also host an exhibition of paintings by Lurdes Portas, opening on 26 March at 18:30. This exhibition is part of the Mirades Pròpies series, which supports local artists and shows the diverse artistic expressions in Roses.

Looking ahead, the Consorci per a la Normalització Lingüística, through the Roses Catalan Office, will open registrations for Catalan language courses (levels A1 to C1) for the third term starting 7 April. Additionally, a conference titled 'Les desconegudes estades de Salvador Dalí a Roses' (Salvador Dalí's Unknown Stays in Roses) by Josep Playà will be held on 24 March at 19:00, offering insights into the artist's connections to the town.
