Lleida has marked International Archives Day with the launch of the Ricard Viñes Digital Archive, a public collection created by the Municipal Archive of Lleida. The project makes part of the pianist’s legacy available online and is part of the wider tribute to the Lleida-born musician.

The archive brings together a wide range of material, including musical scores, images, literary works and personal items. According to the city archive, the aim is to preserve the collection and make it easier for the public to consult Viñes’s life and work.

The Municipal Archive of Lleida has digitised and transcribed the material held in its collections, starting with 2,000 documents originally donated by the Viñes family. The public can now access 130 photographs, more than 300 concert programmes, 98 concert posters, two posters from Lleida’s Festa Major, 147 letters and postcards, 103 musical scores, 103 literary creations, 27 artworks, seven personal objects and five pieces of furniture.

Around half of the Ricard Viñes collection held by the archive is now available for consultation, with more items being added. The archive expects the full collection in its care to be publicly accessible by this summer. The project forms part of the commemorations for the 150th anniversary of Viñes’s birth, which began in 2025.
