Forty students from Sant Pau Apòstol school in Tarragona are preparing to meet Pope Leo XIV at Montserrat on 10 June. The news reached the school three weeks ago, according to Diari de Tarragona, and quickly became a talking point in the first year of ESO.
Among the group are Berta Orellana, Xavi Duch, Álvaro Villoro and Emma Paisano. The four teenagers say they are counting down the days to what they see as a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and for many of them it will also be their first visit to Montserrat.
The meeting will take place at the Montserrat monastery, one of Catalonia’s best-known religious sites. For the students, the day combines a school trip with a major church event, and adds a new layer of significance to a place many know only by reputation.
School life in Tarragona has shifted since the announcement, with excitement building among the pupils involved. The visit also places the city’s students within a wider Catalonia-wide moment, linking a local school community with an event of international religious interest.
