Police in Reus have arrested a man and a woman in connection with four fires in the Baix Camp area, according to the Mossos d'Esquadra. The arrests were made today after investigations into incidents that began on 18 April.
The first fire linked to the pair involved an agricultural vehicle set alight in Vilanova d'Escornalbou on 18 April. They are also linked to three forest fires that broke out on the afternoon of 23 April in L'Argentera, Pratdip and Colldejou.
According to the Mossos and Rural Agents, the fires had up to seven different ignition points. Although the total area burned was just over 600 square metres, officials said the potential risk was much higher.
Weather conditions at the time meant the fires could have affected more than 5,000 hectares. Officials said quick action prevented more serious consequences.
This is not the first time the two people have been arrested. On 5 May, they were taken into custody over another fire involving a lorry in Móra d'Ebre.
