In Reus, the Reus Nord neighbourhood festival has been cancelled after the city council did not authorise its planned celebration in Plaça de la Llibertat. The events were due to take place on 12, 13 and 14 June, according to the Reus Nord Neighbours' Association.

The association said it received the refusal on Friday 5 June, leaving very little time to make changes. Josep Lluís Maduell, president of the association, said the group must submit the application at least two months in advance and now had no time to study other options or explain to the authorities that the festival was planned to respect neighbours' rest.

The short notice meant organisers had no practical way to find another venue or reschedule the programme. The cancellation has disappointed residents who were expecting the annual community gathering in the city.

The festival usually includes cultural and social activities aimed at bringing people together in the neighbourhood. Its cancellation will also be felt by local businesses and residents who take part in, and benefit from, the celebrations.
