Súria athlete Núria Álvarez won gold at the Europa Cup jujitsu competition in Pepinster, Belgium, over the weekend of 6 and 7 June. She took the U18 fighting title in the -52 kg division, according to Regió7.

Álvarez arrived in Belgium in strong form. She had already been runner-up at the European Championships in Crete and won the Patricia Martín Memorial in Parla, Madrid. As the top seed, she did not need to compete in the opening round.

In the quarter-finals, Álvarez beat Germany’s Melissa Bohlert with strong technical work. She then faced Britain’s Lily Conquest in the semi-finals, where her advantage was clear. Álvarez is currently ranked number three in the world.

The final was against Aymeline Bastidas-Joly, a Valencian athlete of French origin. Álvarez won 24-11, matching the results she has been posting in recent national events.

The result gives the Súria competitor a strong platform for her final preparations for the Youth World Championship in Abu Dhabi in August, which has been her main target since the start of the season. For more Catalonia sports coverage, see our news page.
