In Reus, a Colombian man and his two-month pregnant partner were evicted from a flat after signing what police say was a fraudulent rental contract for an occupied property.
Camilo Andrés García, who moved to Tarragona last year, said the couple had been forced to look for housing after a family dispute. He searched for accommodation on Facebook and was put in contact with a man who offered a contract for a flat in Plaça Antoni Villarroel for €800 a month.
The couple moved into the property and stayed there for less than a week before a Mossos d'Esquadra patrol arrived at the door and told them they had to leave. Police said they were illegally occupying the home.
The case is a reminder for people looking for rented housing in Catalonia to check who owns or manages a property before paying any money or signing a contract. For more local reporting, see our news coverage.
