The new Bellissens train station in Reus, Tarragona province, is nearing completion and is expected to open this summer, according to ADIF. The infrastructure manager stated that construction is progressing "as planned" with a target finish date in 2026.
ADIF president Pedro Marco previously announced in November that the station would start operations in summer 2026. Workers are currently assembling the metal canopy structure and platform enclosures. Soon, they will install the cladding and finishes for the station building modules.
Significant construction phases are already complete. These include demolishing existing structures, building pilot screens, and constructing two under-track passages. Interior precast platform edge walls and exterior platform walls, along with emergency exits, are also in place. The catenary support system has been replaced, platform canopies installed, and earthworks for the exterior plaza's steps and ramps finished, ADIF explained.
Boosting Southern Reus Connectivity
Located in the city's southeast, between the existing Reus and Vila-seca stations, Bellissens will enhance intermodality. It will connect this part of the municipality to the Rodalies Camp de Tarragona services and Catalonia's regional lines. Officials estimate the new station will serve approximately 1,400 passengers daily, supporting local mobility in a recently developed area.
The project represents a total investment of €10 million. The station will be fully accessible, featuring a 340 m² surface area and two 220-metre-long side platforms connected by an underpass. The design includes a pedestrian access area, designated spaces for vehicles, taxis, and buses, and specific zones for bicycles and scooters.
Alongside the new station, a new urban passage is under construction. This passage will link the central axis of the Bellissens University Campus with Jaume Vidal i Alcover street, leading towards the city centre. This development aims to further integrate the university area with the wider urban fabric.
