Reus City Council has initially approved plans for a new 800-metre mountain bike (BTT) circuit near the Municipal Stadium in Reus, Tarragona, aiming to expand outdoor sports facilities for residents. The initiative seeks to provide new active leisure alternatives within the city.

Located on municipal land adjacent to the Municipal Stadium, specifically on Recasens i Mercader street, the circuit will feature a variety of technical elements designed to challenge riders. These include banked curves, rock zones, acceleration sections, an elevated starting platform, trenches, and jump areas. The project also incorporates a dedicated start and finish zone, along with specific access points to ensure ease of use for cyclists.

Construction will primarily involve earthworks, the creation and adaptation of the track to a minimum width of three metres, and ground compaction to ensure user safety. According to the City Council, the project has an estimated budget of nearly €10,000.

Boosting Outdoor Sport in Reus

Enrique Martín, the Councillor for Health and Sport, highlighted the significance of this development. He stated that the new circuit would "expand the outdoor sports offering and create new opportunities for mountain biking enthusiasts and young practitioners." The council's objective is to cater to the growing interest in cycling and provide a safe, dedicated space for the sport.

The approval marks a further step in Reus's commitment to promoting active lifestyles and community well-being. The City Council will now proceed with the necessary steps to bring the mountain bike circuit to fruition, anticipating its positive impact on local sports and recreation.
