New Hybrid Buses Launch 8 September
Reus Transport is introducing four new hybrid buses to its fleet this month, increasing capacity by 25% ahead of the new school year. The vehicles will enter service on Tuesday 8 September, coinciding with the start of the academic term. The new buses are part of a broader service upgrade focused on improving student access to secondary schools. According to Reus Transport, the expansion allows for enhanced morning and afternoon routes under the renewed 'A l’insti en bus' programme.
Public Preview on 3 September
Before entering service, the buses will be presented to the public on Thursday 3 September from 5pm to 8pm at Plaça de la Llibertat. The event, branded #REUSestrenaBUS, will include live music, interactive activities and open access to board the vehicles. Residents will have the chance to explore the hybrid buses firsthand and learn about updated routes and schedules.
Five New School Lines Launched
The fleet expansion enables a complete overhaul of school transport. Reus Transport now operates five dedicated lines for students: four morning routes (lines 40, 41, 42 and 43) and one afternoon route (line 44) for return journeys. Previously, only three buses served morning school routes. The additional vehicle and reorganised itineraries aim to reduce waiting times and travel duration. Routes have been redesigned using data collected from secondary schools to reflect actual student travel patterns across the city.
This improvement would not have been possible without foresight. Months ago, we anticipated a 25% increase in the fleet with four hybrid buses to meet sustained demand.
Marina Berasategui, councillor for Urban Planning and Mobility and president of Reus Transport, said the changes would make public transport the fastest and most efficient option for over 8,400 secondary students in Reus. She added that the new territorial routing logic ensures more direct journeys, avoiding excessively long trips and reducing time spent on board.
How to Access the Service
Full timetables and route maps for all lines, including the new school services, are available on the Reus Transport website. The updated service begins fully operating on 8 September, with full network availability confirmed from 14 September onward.
