Full Subsidy for 254 Students Across Four Routes

The Ajuntament d'Abrera will cover 100% of school transport costs for students from I3 to Bachillerato living in Sant Miquel, Can Vilaba, Santa Maria de Vilalba, Les Carpes, and Ca n'Amat. Starting in September 2026, the service will offer 254 fully subsidised seats across four dedicated bus routes. Routes 101 and 102 will serve pupils attending Escola Francesc Platón i Sartí from I3 to sixth grade, providing 126 seats on two coaches. Each bus will carry two adult supervisors. Routes 105 and 106 will connect older students enrolled in ESO and Bachillerato at Institut Voltrera, offering 128 seats on two additional coaches, each with one supervisor. All stops will be clearly marked at key points in each neighbourhood, and route details are published on the municipal website.

Improved Oversight After Service Issues

The decision follows reported operational problems with Monbus, the current transport provider, over the past two years. The council has communicated all incidents to both Monbus and the Consell Comarcal, requesting corrective actions and penalties where applicable. A monitoring committee has been established to ensure contract compliance and service quality. The inclusion of supervisors aims to improve safety and accountability while creating local jobs.

One more year we are fully subsidising school transport for all students from I3 to 4th ESO living in our neighbourhoods, to bring families closer to schools with a specialised service and responsible professionals throughout the journey.

The statement was made by Conxi Sierra, councillor for Education in Abrera, who confirmed the extension of full funding to Bachillerato students this year.
