Protecció Civil, the Generalitat’s civil protection service, has activated yellow warnings for rain in the Baix Ebre, Montsià and Terra Alta comarques, alongside warnings for high night-time temperatures across almost all of Tarragona province.
Residents and visitors in the three southern comarques are being urged to take extra care during the rain episode, which forecasts say could bring torrential downpours. The dual alert means overnight conditions may remain uncomfortable in much of the province even where rain is not expected.
Heavy rain forecast for the southern comarques
Protecció Civil said rainfall could exceed 40 litres per square metre in 30 minutes in the far south of Catalunya. In Montsià, Baix Ebre and Terra Alta, accumulated rainfall could exceed 200 litres per square metre over 24 hours.
The forecast episode was expected to last 24 hours, with particular attention on Sunday afternoon and the early hours of Monday. The Civil Protection service said the Inuncat flood-emergency plan remained active.

Flood-response services reinforced
Bombers de la Generalitat, Catalunya’s fire and rescue service, has reinforced staffing, opened volunteer fire stations and increased command and control capacity as a precaution, according to Protecció Civil.
The Ebro River Basin Authority and the Júcar River Basin Authority were also increasing monitoring because of the risk of rising water levels in streams, ravines and flood-prone areas. Protecció Civil has asked people in Terres de l’Ebre to exercise particular caution while the warnings are in force.
