Commuters on the R4 train line in Catalonia faced severe delays and disruptions on Friday morning, 24 April 2026, after services were halted between Martorell and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. The interruption followed the discovery of a body on the railway tracks.
The incident, which occurred just before 7am, forced the complete closure of the line in this busy section, according to local news outlet Regió 7. Protecció Civil later confirmed that a person had been electrocuted on the tracks.
Emergency Response and Service Restoration
Following the initial suspension, train traffic was partially restored, operating in only one direction. Authorities also arranged an alternative road service to transport passengers affected by the closure between Martorell and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.
Protecció Civil activated the alert phase of its Ferrocat plan, which is designed to manage rail emergencies, in response to the serious incident. Delays are expected to continue as investigations into the electrocution and track clearance proceed.
