In Catalonia, the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC) has named its first 126 mayoral candidates for the 2027 municipal elections. The announcement was made on Saturday and includes people standing for the first time, as well as candidates who are currently in opposition, according to party officials.
Eleven of the candidates are from Central Catalonia. The party said this is the first stage of its selection process, with two more rounds planned for November 2026 and March 2027.
Those later announcements will include more candidates, including current mayors and people already holding governing roles. The PSC said the process is part of its wider effort to build a stronger local presence across the region.
The party also expects its role in governing the Generalitat, Catalonia's regional government, and its recent rise in support to help it field full slates in places where it has not previously done so. It said this is especially important in inland Catalonia, where it wants to strengthen its local roots.
