Lleida firefighters have responded to 54 incidents involving people trapped in lifts since the start of the year, according to figures from the Department of Interior. That is more than two call-outs a week in the capital of Segrià.
The lift rescues make up more than 22% of the 658 total operations carried out by the Generalitat Fire Service in Lleida municipality since January. The data is valid up to early June.
Beyond lift incidents, firefighters carried out 91 urban rescue services up to early June. These included helping people who had fallen inside their homes and forced entries, often requested because of health emergencies.
The department’s figures also record 55 call-outs for vegetation fires, covering urban, agricultural or forest areas, and 44 building fires. There were also 44 container fires and 11 vehicle fires in open areas that were not traffic accidents.
Other operations included 11 call-outs for bee swarms in public spaces and 11 animal rescues. Traffic-related incidents accounted for 57 responses, covering accidents and road clean-ups.
