The Catalan Socialist Party (PSC) stated that the government has provided "necessary explanations" regarding the infiltration of Mossos d'Esquadra officers into teachers' union meetings. Lluïsa Moret, the PSC's first deputy secretary and spokesperson, made the comments in Barcelona.
Moret addressed the issue during the PSC's weekly press conference, avoiding the word "infiltration" itself. She said, "Regarding this specific and concrete event, the Generalitat government, which is the one that must give explanations, has given and continues to give the necessary explanations in relation to this event."
The spokesperson then defended the Mossos d'Esquadra, highlighting their efficiency, effectiveness, and contribution to public safety in Catalonia. "We firmly believe in the role that the Mossos d'Esquadra corps plays, precisely to guarantee this public safety," she remarked.
Moret refused to say whether the infiltration was appropriate. She explained, "We, as a party, do not have an opinion. The party does not opine. Parties are an organisation that evaluates and puts political positions on the table."
Support for Parlon, not Trapero
When asked about calls for the resignation of Interior Minister Núria Parlon and Mossos Director General Josep Lluís Trapero, Moret explicitly defended Parlon but not Trapero. "We endorse the management that has been carried out by the government and by the Department of Interior, headed by Minister Núria Parlon," she stated.
Asked directly about Trapero, Moret responded that the PSC supports the public security policies promoted by the government. "This does not have names and surnames," she said, avoiding explicit support for Trapero.
Moret clarified her position. "When I say that the PSC supports the government, the government's minister is Núria Parlon. I want to make it clear that I do not speak about or evaluate Mr Trapero. What I speak about and what I evaluate is the action of the government, headed by President Salvador Illa, who put public security policies on the table as one of the priorities," she concluded.
