Flood alert issued for northeast Catalonia
Protecció Civil de la Generalitat has activated the special emergency plan for flooding (Inuncat) from Tuesday at midday in the Ripollès, Garrotxa (Girona), and Osona (Barcelona) regions. The alert follows a warning from the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) that rainfall could exceed 20 litres per square metre within 30 minutes, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms and, locally, hail.
Wider risk across central and coastal areas
Precipitation may also affect the pre-coastal areas of Barcelona and Tarragona, Catalunya Central, and the southernmost parts of the region. Severe weather, including violent storms, is forecast in Solsonès (Lleida), Berguedà (Barcelona), and Cerdanya (Girona/Lleida). In recent monitoring, Guixers (Lleida) recorded 27.3 litres of rain, Gisclareny (Barcelona) 17 litres, Lladurs (Lleida) 14.7 litres, and Navès (Lleida) 14.6 litres. No incidents linked to the rain have been reported to emergency services at the 112 hotline.
Residents are advised to clear drains and downpipes, avoid rivers and streams, not cross flooded areas, and refrain from travelling by vehicle during heavy rainfall.
The Government of Catalonia issued the alert on Monday, urging caution ahead of Tuesday’s storm risk. Authorities recommend staying informed via Meteocat and checking traffic conditions through the Servei Català de Trànsit.
