Barcelona is at the centre of Pope Leo XIV’s final day in Catalonia today, 10 June 2026, as he closes a two-day visit with events in the city and nearby sites.
The Pope’s schedule includes a meeting with inmates at Brians 1 prison, a visit to Montserrat Abbey, and a final stop at the Sagrada Família Basilica in Barcelona. The prison visit is intended to underline his message of support for vulnerable groups and people at risk of social exclusion, according to officials.
At the Sagrada Família, Pope Leo XIV will bless the Tower of Jesus. The ceremony comes as the basilica marks the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death, the architect behind the landmark church.
Before the blessing, he will preside over a solemn mass. The King and Queen of Spain, the President of the Spanish Government, and the President of the Generalitat are expected to attend the service.
