Spanish National Police and the Civil Guard arrested 63 international fugitives across Catalonia last year, according to data released by the General Information Commissioner's Office (CGI) of the Police and the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard. Of these, 26 arrests took place in Barcelona, with another 37 made in other parts of Catalonia.
All 63 individuals were subject to international arrest warrants for crimes linked to organised crime. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to target criminal networks operating within the region.
Major Drug Seizures in Barcelona
In addition to the arrests, authorities made significant drug seizures at Barcelona's port and airport. Police confiscated 5.7 tonnes of cocaine, 10 tonnes of hashish, 3.6 tonnes of marijuana, and 600 kilograms of MDMA.
Both police forces emphasised the importance of international collaboration in the fight against organised crime and terrorism. These detentions are part of a broader plan by the National Police and the Civil Guard to intensify their efforts against organised crime throughout Catalonia.
