Tarragona province is hosting filming for Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopic, with Irish actor Paul Mescal seen in Calafell in character as Paul McCartney, according to local reports.
The production has also used locations in Tarragona and Salou, making the Costa Daurada a key setting for the project. The film will tell the story of the Liverpool band through four separate films, each focused on a different member of The Beatles.
Harris Dickinson, who will portray John Lennon, is also part of the cast. In Calafell, a significant part of the filming has taken place on the beach, with dozens of extras involved in recreating scenes.
Local residents and visitors have been watching the crew at work over several days. Details of the scenes filmed have not been made public, and the production has kept them under strict secrecy.
The choice of the Costa Daurada adds to Tarragona province’s profile as a filming location for major international productions. Its beaches, seafront promenades and urban areas have often been used as natural sets for television and film. For more local coverage, see our news page.
