Unanimous Support for Improved Connectivity
The Territorial and Housing Commission of the Parliament of Catalonia has approved four resolution proposals urging the Generalitat government to improve the bus service between Berga and Barcelona. The measures, presented and defended by the parliamentary groups of Junts, PP, CUP, and ERC, reflect longstanding demands from the user platform advocating for better transport links in the Berguedà region. The commission debated and voted on all four proposals together. Montse Ortiz, MP for Junts, highlighted the broad consensus behind the push for change.
We can say it clearly: we need a united front to achieve a direct express bus between Berga and Barcelona and end the mobility inequality faced by the Berguedà
, she stated. Àngels Esteller, representing the PP, stressed that residents in the Berguedà must have guaranteed mobility, which requires buses that meet their actual needs. Daniel Cornellà of the CUP acknowledged recent service extensions but said,
We are not where the people living in Berguedà would like us to be
, reaffirming the need for further improvements. Alba Camps of ERC emphasized that the issue goes beyond transport, stating that public transport is a cross-cutting service requiring a comprehensive comarcal strategy.
Key Measures and Outstanding Actions
The approved resolutions call for the permanent rollout of the previously announced Exprés.cat bus line, an increase in direct services between Berga and Barcelona, and expanded frequencies on both weekdays and weekends. A review of current bus stops is also proposed, particularly for departures from Barcelona heading to Berga. Additionally, the resolutions demand the establishment of a monitoring mechanism for the service, with participation from the Berguedà County Council. Most points were adopted unanimously, though some passed with differentiated votes. Notably, a section of the CUP's proposal, calling for prioritising bus services over toll discounts on the C-16 motorway for private vehicles, was rejected. According to official parliamentary records (BOPC 383/15, T 22.12.2025), the resolution proposals were formally processed and debated. The final adoption of the measures was confirmed in subsequent parliamentary documents (BOPC 495/15, T 22.05.2026), with voting records showing majority support across multiple groups.
Next Steps for Commuters
While the resolutions are not binding, they create political pressure on the Generalitat to act. The user platform behind the campaign will continue to monitor progress and engage with local authorities. Residents can follow updates via the Parliament of Catalonia's official website and through the Berguedà County Council’s public communications.
