Hundreds of Nissan workers gathered in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat on Wednesday, 28 May, to protest against a redundancy plan affecting 211 employees across Catalonia.
The demonstration took place outside the company’s offices in L'Hospitalet, with staff opposing the proposed job cuts. The protest followed Nissan’s announcement of an employment regulation file, or ERO, affecting a significant part of its workforce in the region.
Workers said the layoffs are not linked to poor local results. They argued that Nissan is carrying out a global restructuring and moving jobs elsewhere, according to comments made during the protest.
“It’s not about negative local results, but Nissan is carrying out a global restructuring and taking our jobs elsewhere,” a worker told reporters.
The company’s decision has raised concern among employees about job security and the future of Nissan’s operations in Catalonia. Union representatives are expected to continue negotiations with Nissan management to seek alternatives to the proposed redundancies and reduce the impact on affected staff.
