Workers from Nestlé factories in Girona and Reus gathered on Friday afternoon to protest against a redundancy plan, known as an Expediente de Regulación de Empleo (ERO), which will affect 178 employees across Catalonia.
The multinational's Catalan workforce organised the mobilisation to oppose the ERO, which proposes dismissing 178 people. This represents 10% of the total staff in Catalonia, with 75 affected in Girona and 103 in Reus.
Employees have urged the company to rethink its decision and find other ways to avoid the job losses.
Restructuring Behind Redundancies
Trade unions say the ERO is part of a wider company restructuring at Spanish and European levels. They claim it does not stem from a crisis at the Catalan plants.
The protest was peaceful. A manifesto was read out, criticising the terms of the ERO and calling for dialogue with Nestlé.
