A 74-year-old German man died in Montferrer i Castellbò, in Alt Urgell, after his motorcycle left the road on the N-260. The crash happened in the Catalonia-wide context of a run of fatal motorbike accidents in Lleida province.
Emergency services received the alert at 12:08 on Friday, 12 June, about the accident at kilometre 253 of the road, according to the Catalan Traffic Service. The rider died at the scene after the vehicle left the road for reasons that are still being investigated.
Two Mossos d'Esquadra patrols, two Generalitat Fire Brigade units, a ground unit and a medical helicopter from the Medical Emergency System, SEM, attended the scene. More local news is available on the site’s news tag page.
This was the third motorcyclist fatality in Lleida province in ten days, and the second in the same week. On Tuesday, a 49-year-old Lleida resident died in the Pardinyes neighbourhood. On 2 June, a 65-year-old man from La Granja d'Escarp died after his motorcycle collided with a car on the C-45 in Seròs.
Officials said that section of road in Seròs was in poor condition. In separate incidents on Friday afternoon, another motorcyclist suffered minor injuries after leaving the road on the N-260 in Soriguera, a driver was taken to Arnau de Vilanova Hospital after her vehicle overturned on the C-53 in Penelles, and a motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a car on Avinguda de Madrid in Lleida city.
