A motorcyclist has been charged after being caught travelling at 202 kilometres per hour in Alt Urgell, where the speed limit is 90 km/h. Mossos d'Esquadra officers detected the vehicle on Monday, 4 May, according to police.
The incident took place on the N-260 road, specifically at kilometre point 160.6, within the municipality of Ribera d'Urgellet. The police patrol observed the motorcycle moving at an excessive speed, leading to the immediate action.
Charges for Road Safety Offence
The driver, a 24-year-old man, faces a criminal charge for an offence against road safety. This charge is for driving a vehicle at a speed significantly higher than legally permitted. The criminal complaint has been processed and sent to the duty court in La Seu d'Urgell.
This type of offence carries serious penalties under Spanish law, including fines, points on the driving licence, and potentially a driving ban. Road safety campaigns frequently highlight the dangers of excessive speed, particularly on national roads like the N-260, which often feature winding sections and varying terrain.
