L'Escala, Girona, hosted the fifth day of the Moth European Championship on 12 June 2026 at the Club Nàutic l’Escala, with four races completed in the Empúries Sea after a difficult start to the day.
After a previous day without racing because of a lack of wind, the fleet again faced uncertainty in the morning. Winds were very light from the east, between 2 and 4 knots, and the Race Committee kept the programme on hold.
Conditions improved around midday, when the wind settled at 11 to 12 knots and later reached 13 to 14 knots. That gave the sailors a good window for foiling, and the Committee started the fleet once the breeze became steady enough.
The day was demanding for the competitors, who spent many hours on the water after the delay. Four scheduled races, high temperatures close to 29 C, and strong sun made hydration and energy management important throughout the session.
The racing remained close and competitive, with frequent changes in position and tight starts. Organisers described the fifth day as one of the most testing of the championship.
After the races, Enzo Balenguer of Club la Pelle, Marseille, remained in the lead of the provisional overall standings. Ryan Littlechild of Australia and John Harris of Woollahra Sailing Club were next in the classification. The final day of the European Championship was scheduled for 13 June 2026.
