Mollerussa's Robotech team has been recognised by the town council after winning the First Lego League world final in Houston. Mayor Marc Solsona and other municipal officials welcomed the young team members in the Plenary Hall on 10 June 2026.
The reception highlighted a result that puts Mollerussa on the map in educational robotics. The team won top recognition for a project linked to archaeology, after studying a real problem faced in excavations.
According to the council, the students contacted more than 460 archaeologists to understand the sector's needs. Their research led them to focus on one of the slowest tasks in an excavation, separating sediments to recover and classify archaeological remains.
To tackle that problem, the team designed a machine that is currently in the patent process. The device is intended to speed up sediment separation, and the University of Lleida has shown interest in using it in its research work.
Mayor Solsona praised the team's innovation, effort and teamwork during the reception. He encouraged them to keep developing projects with practical value and to continue representing Mollerussa in major educational robotics competitions.
