Barcelona has a new dining spot at its highest point, with Masia Tibidabo now open at Tibidabo Amusement Park. The Catalan restaurant sits in the historic Masia building in Plaça del Tibidabo, 500 metres above sea level, and looks out over the city, the sea and the mountains.
The opening was attended by Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni and First Deputy Mayor Laia Bonet, who is also president of the municipal company BSM. Representatives from the city’s economic, social and gastronomic sectors were also present. The project is part of BSM’s wider plan to strengthen Tibidabo as a leisure destination during the park’s 125th anniversary year.
Chef Rafa Zafra leads the kitchen. Born in Seville in 1981, he trained at elBulli with Ferran Adrià before moving to Barcelona at 24. Masia Tibidabo serves Catalan cuisine for children and adults, with a focus on origin, product and seasonality. The menu is designed for sharing, and the restaurant also offers a wide wine list.
The venue has space for 300 diners and is divided into three areas, a central dining room, a viewing room and a terrace. The indoor spaces are designed for longer meals and conversation, while the terrace offers a quicker stop near the Temple of the Sacred Heart. Table reservations include the Cuca de Llum funicular journey, and parking is also available for visitors arriving by car. For more on Tibidabo, see our news coverage.
The building itself dates from 1901 and has been restored by Varis Arquitectes, led by Dani Freixes. The design uses wood, warm tones and lighting that can change the atmosphere of the room. Large windows keep the views central to the experience, while the restaurant’s concept is meant to fit the setting above Barcelona.
Bonet said the opening gives new momentum to how people understand and enjoy one of Barcelona’s best-known symbols. Zafra said the restaurant is meant to be a place to pause, share and enjoy seasonal Catalan food in a setting above the city. Freixes described it as a singular restaurant designed with all five senses in mind.
