Manresa, in Catalonia’s Bages comarca, has risen to second place in Spain’s infidelity ranking, according to a new seasonal list published by Ashley Madison, the extramarital dating app. The city moved up two places from last year, when it was fourth nationally.
Girona is now Spain’s most unfaithful city for the first time, while also holding the top spot in Catalonia for the third season in a row. Barcelona, the Catalan capital, moved from fifth to third place in the national ranking.
Ashley Madison said Catalonia has become a significant centre for people seeking new relationship types, a trend it says it has seen for four seasons. For more Catalonia-wide coverage, see our news tag.
Six Catalan cities in the top 20
Six Catalan cities appear in the top 20 list of Spain’s most unfaithful cities. Alongside Girona, Manresa and Barcelona, the list includes Lleida, Tarragona and Reus, although all three have fallen in the ranking.
Lleida has dropped from seventh last year to tenth. Tarragona fell from eighth to 13th, while Reus moved down one place, from 15th to 16th.
Outside Catalonia, Granada is the highest-ranked city in Andalusia, placing fourth nationally. León, Madrid and Valencia follow in fifth, sixth and seventh place respectively. Ashley Madison also said the main reasons people gave for infidelity were sexual dissatisfaction, at 30%, a need for more attention and affection, at 29%, and a desire for new experiences, at 28%.
The platform said its study suggests more people now understand their own needs and accept that one partner may not satisfy them throughout life. It also said Spain has one of the lowest global rates of people who would forgive a partner for infidelity, at 27%, split between 30% of men and 23% of women.
