In Manresa, the CGT union has sharply criticised the local government's explanation over household cardboard waste, after alleging that more than 400 tonnes may have been sent to landfill instead of being recycled.
Josep A. Fernández Páxaro, general secretary of CGT Manresa, described the response as “surreal and ridiculous” following the union's public complaint.
The union said the issue affects cardboard collected from the Historic Centre and part of the outer neighbourhoods, and claimed that the material could have been systematically disposed of in landfill sites outside the region.
The dispute centres on whether waste collected from homes in Manresa is being properly processed for recycling, or sent elsewhere for disposal. The CGT says residents expect sorted waste to be recycled, and that the case raises questions about local waste management policy and public trust.
