Manresa is marking a local healthcare milestone, as the radiotherapy service at Sant Joan de Déu Hospital celebrates its tenth anniversary this June.

Launched in 2016, the service treats various tumours and allows patients to receive specialised cancer care closer to home in Catalonia Central.

The unit operates through an agreement with the Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa, which manages and delivers the treatment directly in Manresa. The model has allowed Althaia, the healthcare network to which Sant Joan de Déu belongs, to expand its specialist services in the region.

According to officials, the partnership has worked well and has since been applied to other medical specialities. It has helped residents of Manresa and nearby areas access more advanced care without travelling to larger cities.

The continued operation of the radiotherapy service underlines a wider effort to bring complex treatment closer to patients across Catalonia. For more local health coverage, see our news page.
