Manresa’s Cinemes Bages Centre will screen a documentary next Thursday, 4 June, about the first Catalan expedition to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The 35-minute film, Everest 1985: Els primers catalans a fer el cim (Everest 1985: The First Catalans to Summit), was directed by Manresa native Joel Badia.
The film revisits the expedition 40 years after the ascent and includes first-person accounts and anecdotes from the Catalan mountaineers involved. It focuses on the experiences of the climbers and the significance of their achievement for Catalan mountaineering.
The screening in Manresa adds a local setting to a story with wider Catalonia-wide interest, linking the city to a milestone in the region’s sporting history. Readers can also follow more local coverage on our news page.
The event offers audiences a chance to hear directly from those involved in the 1985 expedition. It also highlights the lasting legacy of a team whose ascent remains part of Catalan sporting memory.
