Tarragona police have arrested a 42-year-old man over 16 robberies in communal storage rooms in the city’s western neighbourhoods, with most of the cases linked to Campclar and one to La Floresta.

The Mossos d’Esquadra say the man was detained on 22 May and faces charges of aggravated robbery, violent robbery and minor assault. He has 48 previous police records, mostly for property crimes.

The investigation was led by the Tarragona police station’s Investigation Unit. Police estimate the stolen goods were worth about €14,500.

The most recent incident took place on 4 May in Campclar, when a resident found a man inside his storage room loading items on to a trolley. When the resident tried to stop him, a struggle followed and both men fell to the ground, leaving the resident with minor injuries, according to police.

Evidence gathered at the scene linked the suspect to 14 other aggravated robberies between the night of 21 April and the early morning of 23 April in storage rooms at a residential building on Riu Ter street in Campclar. Police also attribute another robbery to the group on Baró Pierre de Coubertin street in La Floresta.

The thieves are said to have entered communal buildings by forcing open entrance doors or internal access points, then breaking into storage units and taking items that were easy to carry or resell. The man appeared before the Tarragona duty investigating court on Saturday and has been sent to Tarragona prison. The investigation remains open as officers try to identify a second person seen near the storage rooms.
