In Manresa, the CGT union has asked for full transparency over the final destination of cardboard collected in the city’s historic centre. The union says there are indications that residential cardboard from the area, and some from outer neighbourhoods, could be sent to landfills outside the region.
CGT has sent a formal letter to Manresa City Council and the Catalan Government. In that letter, it asks for assurances that the waste is being managed correctly and for public information on where the cardboard ends up.
The union says the situation could breach current waste management rules. It is also calling for an investigation and for any necessary measures to be taken so that the cardboard is recycled properly.
CGT has separately asked for the contract with the company responsible for collecting and managing the cardboard to be published. It also wants access to the monitoring and control reports linked to the company’s work.
