A man, aged around 45, died early on Monday morning in an apartment block fire in Vielha, Val d'Aran, on Anglada Street. Another man sustained minor injuries from smoke inhalation and was taken to Val d'Aran hospital.

The Vielha town council has declared official mourning until 12pm on Tuesday and called for a minute of silence for the deceased, who was a local resident. According to Mayor Juan Antonio Serrano, the victim had previously worked for the town council's cleaning service.

Eleven vehicles from the Aran emergency services, Pompièrs, worked to extinguish the blaze, with assistance from the Generalitat Firefighters from El Pont de Suert, according to the Conselh Generau d’Aran. Residents of the six-apartment building were rehoused by the town council's social services following the incident.
