A 68-year-old man from Rabós d'Empordà died on Sunday morning after a motorcycle crash in Garriguella, in Alt Empordà. The accident happened at around 10.30am, when his motorcycle left the road for reasons that are still under investigation.
An off-duty healthcare professional who was in the area began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, until emergency medical services, SEM, arrived. SEM staff then continued treatment at the scene.
Despite those efforts, the rider could not be saved and died at the site of the crash, according to officials. Local police in Garriguella have taken charge of the investigation to establish the cause.
The case adds to continuing concern about road safety on rural roads across Catalonia, where authorities regularly urge drivers and motorcyclists to take extra care. The investigation will examine the circumstances of the motorcycle leaving the road, including possible road conditions and vehicle factors.
