A man was arrested in Lleida early yesterday morning, 11 May, after allegedly attacking his partner with a piece of broken glass inside an ATM vestibule on Lluís Companys street. The victim suffered a deep cut to her leg and was taken to Arnau de Vilanova hospital, according to local newspaper Segre.
Bystanders provided immediate assistance to the injured woman, applying a tourniquet to control severe bleeding before emergency services arrived. The Guardia Urbana arrested the man on charges of gender violence and property damage.
Attack in Bank Vestibule
The incident occurred around 6am. The couple, described as middle-aged and vulnerable, were reportedly sleeping in the ATM vestibule when the man allegedly broke a window at the bank branch. He then used a piece of the broken glass to attack his partner, causing a significant injury to her leg.
Passers-by noticed the injured woman, called the 112 emergency line, and administered first aid. Their quick actions, including using a sock as a tourniquet, were critical in preventing further blood loss. Guardia Urbana and Mossos d'Esquadra patrols, along with an ambulance from the Medical Emergency System (SEM), quickly responded to the scene.
After receiving initial treatment on site, the woman was transported to Arnau de Vilanova hospital. She was admitted and scheduled for surgery today, Tuesday, to address issues with a damaged artery.
