A man is on trial in Girona over allegations that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy in Lloret de Mar in August 2023. Prosecutors are seeking a 13-year prison sentence.

The defendant told the court this week that the sexual relations were consensual. He also said he did not know the boy’s real age, and claimed the minor told him he was 16 or 17.

The case was heard in Girona, with the court taking the defendant’s testimony at the start of the trial. The allegations relate to contact made through an app before the meeting in Lloret de Mar.

The court also heard a pre-recorded statement from the minor, used as pre-constituted evidence. In that statement, the teenager said the sexual relations were voluntary and said he told the accused he was 15.

Prosecutors are still seeking a conviction, arguing that the victim was below the legal age to consent to sexual activity, according to court officials. For more Girona and Catalonia court coverage, see our news page.
