In Lloret de Mar, opposition municipal groups say the local police station closed on Saturday night because there were not enough officers on duty. Tots per Lloret, Junts Lloret and ERC Lloret said this had never happened before in the Girona town.
The three groups said the shortage meant the station could not stay open. They also said an external private company had to be hired to provide security for the building.
The closure has raised questions about how the local government is managing public safety resources. The opposition says the incident points to wider staffing problems within the local police force.
Residents use the station for a range of services, so even a temporary closure can affect access and response times. The municipal groups are expected to press for answers at upcoming council meetings.
