Hundreds of teachers, students and professors protested in Lleida on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, as part of a second day of strikes across Catalonia.

More than 500 people began their demonstration at 9.30am from the Official Language School (EOI) and marched along the C-12 road to the Alba Schools. Protesters carried water, hats and umbrellas to cope with the heat while they pressed their demands during ongoing negotiations with the Education Department.

Unions involved, including USTEC, CGT, Professors de Secundària and Intersindical, said their actions have pushed the Education Department to open dialogue. They added that the proposals put forward so far do not meet their demands.

The unions are seeking further negotiations, saying the current proposals do not adequately address concerns about working conditions and resources. They say they will continue to press for more substantial changes.

This protest in Lleida forms part of wider mobilisation across Catalonia, where teachers have continued to call for improvements in the education system. For more Catalonia news, see our news coverage.
